Instagram set to dethrone TikTok as fastest-growing social media platform

Instagram – one of the most popular social media networks globally – is set to dethrone Tiktok as the fastest-growing social-media platform, with a steadily increasing user base.

Instagram’s user growth has been constant in recent years and shows no indications of abating anytime soon, according to research published by OnlyAccounts.io.

The photo and video-sharing social networking app is predicted to reach 1.33 billion users in 2023, an increase of 86 million from the previous year and 1.56 billion worldwide by 2027.

Statista Market Insights reported between 2019 and 2023, about 465 million people worldwide began using Instagram, increasing the total user base from 867.8 million to a staggering 1.33 billion, representing a 53 per cent increase over just four years.

TikTok, the fastest-growing social media network, had its user base rise by 202 per cent during that period, reaching 1.92 billion, but its growth rate is predicted to slow significantly.

Instagram’s user base reached one billion for the first time in 2020, a major milestone formerly reserved for social media behemoths such as Facebook.

The same report showed Android users spend an average of 12 hours a month on Instagram, the second most time in the social media field. TikTok remained the clear winner in this category, with an average of 23 hours and 28 minutes spent using the app in one month, about 20 per cent more than the previous year.
