Fresh produce delivery service Good & Fugly has officially launched its operations in Brisbane.
Originally launched in 2020, the Sydney-based start-up has been delivering quirky but tasty seasonal fruit and vegetable boxes straight to the consumers’ doorstep in an effort to fight Australia’s food waste epidemic.
Recent research previously reported that 25 per cent of all Australian produce does not get picked up and is just left to rot.
To date, Good & Fugly has delivered over 200,000 kgs of fresh produce to consumers at average prices 20 per cent below those that the supermarkets charge. All prices include delivery and customers who opt for weekly or fortnightly subscriptions receive an additional 10 per cent off.
Every box is filled with fresh, seasonal produce direct from farmers as well as recipe cards that are included in each box to inspire consumers to utilise the produce in new and exciting ways.
“The price of fruit and veg is skyrocketing, and still major supermarkets are rejecting produce based on looks alone,” Good & Fugly founder, Richard Tourino, said. “After our launches in Sydney and Melbourne, we’re excited to enter a market looking to do good and eat fresh, delicious and affordable fruit and veg.”
As part of the launch, Good & Fugly will also be looking to connect with local Queensland farmers who have cosmetically challenged produce or surplus stock they need to clear. Good & Fugly has been working directly with farmers to give them a fair price for their produce that would otherwise be thrown away.
“The cosmetic standards of supermarkets mean an astounding amount of great food never reaches our plates,” Tourino explained. “In fact, 30 per cent of all the world’s farmland is used to produce wasted food. We’re on a mission to make saving the planet affordable, convenient, and delicious.”
