Family Business Australia consumers to support family businesses more than ever in these challenging times.
“Family businesses are the backbone of the economy and statistics show that 75 per cent of consumers trust family businesses,” Greg Griffith, CEO of Family Business Australia (FBA), said. “Therefore, it is important, now more than ever, to tap into these trustworthy businesses. It’s time to come together to support Australian family-owned businesses and there are many ways buyers can do that.
Approximately 70 per cent of all businesses in Australia are family businesses and over 50 per cent of the Australian workforce are employed by a family business. With such significant contributions to local communities and the wider economy, the FBA said it is vital that consumers help bolster family businesses which, in turn, helps the economy move forward.
The FBA has shared some ways on how consumers can support family-owned small businesses:
Search the “We are family owned” directory
There are over 1000 family-owned Australian businesses listed on the directory, www.wearefamilyowned.org.au, from building services, education and training, to food and beverage, manufacturing, transport and viticulture.
Look for the Family-owned Australian business emblem
The FBA advises consumers to look for the Family Owned Australian Business emblem on products, websites and signage and shop locally where possible.
Like, follow, share
Many family businesses have an online presence through social media. An act even as simple as a like, comment, follow or share can help increase awareness about them dramatically.
Purchase a gift card for later use
With many people staying mostly at home due to quarantine measures, a lot of businesses are bearing the effects of having no customers in their premises. Buying a gift card to family-owned shops, restaurants or stores is an immediate way to inject cash into the business. This will help keep these businesses stay afloat even for a while and ensure they will still be in business when the virus crisis passes.
Shop online
Regardless of whether you are self-isolating or unable to purchase what you want from your nearest store, it has never been easier to buy the goods and services you need through various online platforms.
