Small businesses losing time and money due to incorrect online details

There’s a good chance small businesses missed out on potential revenue over the recent holidays due to one very big and costly oversight – having the incorrect details online.

According to data collected by White Pages, 85 per cent of businesses in Australia have incorrect information available online.

According to Stephen Palmer, Executive General Manager, White Pages, businesses tend to “set and forget” important details in their online profiles such as hours of operation, location, contact numbers, and website.

“By having incorrect details about your business online, you frustrate customers and can lose business as a result. As the digital landscape continually grows, so does the need to stay connected with your customers,” Palmer said. “The biggest inconsistency we found was businesses missing data or outdated photos, with 63 per cent of businesses guilty of this.”

“We understand that it can be challenging and time-consuming to keep across every channel you’re on, but you need to. Regardless of whether you operate a business with one or one hundred locations, it’s essential that customers who are searching for your business can do so simply and aren’t receiving conflicting information.”

White Pages recently launched White Pages Connect, an innovative service that allows businesses to easily manage their online footprint by collating and updating information across the most used search engines, websites and social media sites with the click of a button.

“With the emergence of online shopping, customer behaviours have changed significantly. Customers are now making decisions faster than ever before, thanks to online research as the first point-of-contact when searching for a business,” Palmer said. “People ultimately want help in these decision-making moments, which is why keeping your online presence up-to-date with correct information, is now more crucial than ever as it reduces a customer’s effort in searching for your business.”

Next month, White Pages Connect is set to launch its Time Saving Calculator, allowing SMEs to calculate the time they could save in six easy steps. The tool is designed to help SMEs identify how much time they could save each month, enabling them to have better efficiency and productivity across their business model.
