Four things you never knew a franchise network could offer you

franchises, franchise

It’s no secret that the franchising sector has been rocked by a number of scandals and serious allegations this year. While it’s critical that potential franchisees are aware of this, it’s also essential to remember that every franchise system in the franchising industry is unique. As such, each franchise network will have a different way of working with franchisees and integrating them into the business.

There are a number of benefits that come with being a franchisee, provided you do your due diligence in researching the right franchise network for you. A good franchisor doesn’t just set you up, take your money and leave you – they provide ongoing support, guidance and more. These are the top four elements that the right franchise network will provide.

1. Longevity

As a potential franchisee, you’re able to look for a network that has a proven track record and longevity in the market. A tried and tested network, with years of experience behind it, is going to mean more security and less risk for you.

It is also important to understand how long franchisees stay in the network; if a franchise system has many franchisees coming and going this could point to a more systemic issue where franchisee satisfaction is a problem. Always ensure you talk to current franchisees in the network to hear it from the “horse’s mouth”.

With a wealth of information at your fingertips – the internet, industry publications, shop fronts etc. – you will probably consider, and scrutinize, a number of different franchise networks.

2. Personalised training

While organisations often boast development and training as something they offer their franchisees, it’s not always a long-term reality. Some franchise networks, including Bedshed, offer bespoke training for franchisees. This helps to ensure franchisees are confident in the skills they need and have the best chance of succeeding.

Certain franchise networks also offer training out of store, for example overseas buying trips in the retail sector, which will help to develop the supply chain and contribute to in-store range development and merchandising.

3. Research and insights

Once you join a franchise, you become part of a community and you’re no longer out on your own. You should have a network of experienced professionals behind you, dedicated to helping you succeed. These professionals are able to share a range of valuable insights on your important business decisions such as site selection and development, to marketing and product selection.

A good franchise network will always keep the interests of its franchisees top of mind throughout their business relationship, not just at the beginning, whether that’s by introducing new suppliers, or revamping its marketing strategy.

4. Friendship

There are a number of misconceptions often circulated around the industry and in the media that don’t always paint the full picture of the franchising world. A good network strives to foster open, two-way healthy relationships between its management team and franchisees, and between franchisees. This can result in relationships that extend beyond work – many of our franchisees have become close friends and share business insights or advice, as well as a Sunday barbecue!
