In independent research commissioned from FedEx Express, the findings reveal the biggest trend in SME trade today: Global is the new local. This year, for the first time, Asia-Pacific SMEs are exporting more to markets outside of Asia-Pacific than within the region.
Diversification is leading to new opportunities, with no single export market dominating for Asia-Pacific SMEs. More challenges are being overcome; traditional challenges like language and distance are no longer the biggest concerns of SMEs. Instead, customs, currency, and delivery are new hurdles. Despite this, technology is fuelling optimism and transforming international trade for SMEs in the region.
