The government of Western Australia (WA) is seeking feedback from businesses as it considers public holiday reforms.

The reforms will include moving public holidays to better align with other jurisdictions, moving WA Day out of the winter season and the addition of new public holidays.

WA’s government stated the realignment of the state’s public holidays with other jurisdictions would reduce “scheduling complexities and efficiency impacts for WA businesses, organisations and government agencies with interstate dealings.”

Reforms would ensure WA employees receive benefits similar to those of employees in other states, see WA Day garner better social and economic benefits and maintain a spread of public holidays across the calendar year.

The review attempts to align WA business operations with the rest of Australia, making interstate scheduling, banking, and business more manageable.

The government states that the shift of WA Day would benefit the state by attracting more tourism, thereby benefiting local businesses and the state’s economy.

The WA government is also seeking feedback from community members and businesses regarding the impact these reforms would have on work-life balance, staffing costs, productivity, community benefits, event attraction and tourism, and any unintended consequences.

Feedback can be sent through via the WA government’s public holiday review webpage which will be open until August 8.
