Australia’s first pillow recycling program launched

environmental targets

B Corp certified bedding brand #GoKindly has launched Australia’s first pillow recycling program as a way to help address the 20 million tonnes of waste being sent to Australia’s landfills every year.

For this venture, #GoKindly has partnered with a local fabric recycler to create Australia’s first pillow recycling program, which is envisioned to end the problem of pillow waste.

“When we first founded #GoKindly, it was frustrating to learn that there was no program for recycling old and manky pillows,” Laura Conti, co-founder of #GoKindly, said about the program. “Instead, they end up in landfill. We want to be part of reducing waste, not contributing to it.”

With the help of technology, the recycled pillows will be made into yarn, so the pillows will live on in another form and not contribute to landfill.

“We approach business with kindness being at the heart of everything,” Conti explained. “We manufacture locally to create quality goods and ensure fair wages have been paid. We use eco-friendly packaging, and support vulnerable women in our community.

“While we encourage our community to find ways to re-use old pillows, there comes a time when they will reach their end of life,” Conti added. “We are proud to have given our community a better alternative of recycling their pillow instead of landfill.”
