Research reveals that retailers are not ready to manage Christmas shipping delays and their logistics systems are not set up to cope with increase in demand
New research by shipping and fulfilment software platform Temando reveals Christmas shipping issues could ruin the festive season for small retailers, with many not ready to deal with the imminent online-shopping frenzy.
The survey of over 200 Australian micro-, small-, and medium-sized retailers explored the shipping-related challenges they face and exposed the difficulties – particularly for smaller retailers – of high shipping costs and satisfying customer needs over the peak period.
The key findings are:
- 83% of surveyed retailers are not well prepared to handle Christmas shipping delays and uncertain delivery dates
- 79% of surveyed retailers are do not have return procedures that will meet customer demand this Christmas
- 80% of surveyed retailers believe that their logistics systems are not set up to cope with the increase in sales this period brings
According to Carl Hartmann, CEO and co-founder of Temando, a huge boom in sales and the last minute Christmas rush can result in angry shoppers if retailers don’t implement effective shipping and fulfilment processes.
Retailers need to explore the wide range of technology and software solutions available to streamline their eCommerce shipping, enabling them to satisfy their customers’ expectations.
