NSW’s parliament has been urged to speed up the adoption of the Workers Compensation Legislation Amendment Bill 2025 to ensure the sustainability of the scheme for workers and protect businesses from significant premium hikes.

The Business Council has called on Parliament to pass the legislation before the end of the year, in response to concerns that rising premium pressure within the NSW Workers Compensation Scheme is unsustainable. The council argues it will increase the cost of doing business and discourage investment.

“Addressing this concern is now urgent – we must continue to support workers most in need while also reducing the impact of unmeritorious claims, which are placing pressure on premiums,” the council said in a statement.

“The BCA is calling on the NSW Parliament to support this Bill and pass the important reforms.”

Without reforms, businesses will face increased premium pressure, impacting their ability to invest, employ and grow. That, the BCA says, will have broader impacts for consumers across the state.
