Dedicated summit for professional services SMEs announced

Succession planning, legacy

A virtual event, to be held from 29 to 31 March, will help SMEs gain access to a range of experts that cover strategies and tools they need to successfully buy (or merge with) a business, grow a business, and prepare them in the event that they decide to sell their business.

The Buy Grow Sell Summit for Professional Service Businesses, conceived and planned in partnership by Exit Advisory Group and Aspect Legal, will be opened by Kate Carnell AO, former Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman.

“Especially in the aftermath of COVID, there’s a huge number of SME advisory businesses under pressure,” summit co-host, Joanna Oakey of Aspect Legal, said. “Owners with even just a fleeting idea of selling, need to do more to educate themselves on how to get the value they deserve. In many cases, for business owners, it’s a lifetime of their work, and to walk away from that with nothing because they didn’t prepare is just tragic.”

Over 20 industry expert speakers and panellists will participate in the summit, The organisers stated that the speakers come from a diverse range of founders, CEOs, economic analysts, authors and advisors who are not only experts in their field, but many who have had experiences in scaling and selling their own respective businesses.

Simon Bedard, event co-host from Exit Advisory Group, noted that the event is not just for those considering succession planning. “Business is fundamentally a cycle. We get in, we grow, and one day we exit. So regardless of where you are at on your business journey, this summit could change your business forever,” Bedard said.

“It’s an event for any professional services owner, and perhaps just what they need to refocus after the last two years. This is not just about financial goals, it is also about how you spend your time, and what kind of legacy you’re leaving behind,” Bedard added. “When you build for value, you don’t just build a business that is more profitable, you create a company that will be a lot more enjoyable to run. This is the event where you can learn the tools to do that.”
