Bloomberg Square Mile Relay comes to Sydney

The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay, an event that embodies collaboration and speed in business with ten-man corporate teams running alongside each other for their chosen charities, comes to Sydney on 16 March

Square Mile Sport in conjunction with Bloomberg have announced the launch of the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Sydney. To be held in Darling Harbour on Wednesday,16 March the event, created in 2007, joins the established global race series made up of London, Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai and Shanghai events.
Set in the newly redeveloped Tumbalong Park, the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay will differ from other local running events, with participants from corporate organisations across the city challenging one another for pole position as they weave their way through the one-mile (1.6km) Darling Harbour route.
Bloomberg, the global business and financial information and news leader, has been the headline sponsor of the Square Mile Relay since the race started in 2007 in the City of London.
Emily Gordon, Head of Bloomberg Australia said, ’Bloomberg is proud to bring the Square Mile Relay to Sydney. We’ve had a presence in Australia for 30 years and have continued to expand our operations in Sydney as the city has become an increasingly important global financial centre.’
‘The race embodies collaboration and speed in business and it’s going to be great to see so many of our customers, employees and industry peers running alongside each other for their chosen charities,’ Emily added.
Each team will be made up of 10 runners, each having to complete the one-mile (1.6km) course before handing the baton to a teammate. The team achieving the fastest cumulative time will be crowned champions of the inaugural Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Sydney and will walk away with $10,000 for the charity of their choice.
The race will culminate in a celebratory after-race party, where live music will kick off the evening as the sun sets. All runners will enjoy food, drinks and live entertainment throughout the evening, with supporters also invited to attend. An awards ceremony will see the fastest team presented with their charity cheque.
The annual sporting event has had huge success since its launch in the City of London in 2007, expanding in recent years to Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Dubai, with more than 100 teams entering the relay race at each location every year. With continued success, the 2016 series will also include inaugural races in New York and Frankfurt, with further races expected to be announced for
2017.
Nick Keller, CEO of the event owner Square Mile Sport, said, ‘The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is a unique sporting event whose goal is to offer a platform for teams from local corporates to express their sporting enthusiasm while also building trust and understanding within and between team. It is a great opportunity to take part in a team-building or corporate-networking activity, or to merely enjoy seeing the city from a special on-foot perspective.’
The event is open to all levels of experience, from elite runners to those who just run for fun in their spare time.
