Make mentoring work – Peter S Wilson, Major Street Publishing

Mentoring is an art where magic happens under conditions that foster creativity – spontaneity and face-to-face contact.

Peter Wilson, the National President of Australian Human Resources Institute, is a key figure in Australian mentoring.

As part of his aim to break the code of mentoring and make it accessible to anyone, Peter Wilson interviewed 90 leaders in business, politics and sports who had mentors in their lives. For best practice, he also spoke to managers and creators of 20 mentoring programs that were formed recently.

What makes a good mentor and mentee? There’s guidance here on ways to get value from the relationship.

Most valuable for small businesses is guidance for those starting out by themselves – particularly useful if you are working with a BEC in terms of what makes a good mentor and mentee – and ways to get value from the relationship. Wilson had the time-poor in mind when he included box summaries at the end.
