Australian brand disrupting New York uniform scene

Australian brand disrupting New York Cargo Crew

From Melbourne to The Big Apple, Cargo Crew has become the top pick for world-renowned restaurateur Claus Meyer’s brand new 5000 square foot eatery, Great Northern Food Hall, in Grand Central Terminal New York. This is the largest venture into the USA for Australia’s leading uniform brand.

Selected by the Danish culinary entrepreneur’s U.S. team, Cargo Crew are thrilled to be outfitting the Great Northern Food Hall with uniforms which complement the venue’s abundant Nordic flavour. Famous for co-founding and co-owning the two Michelin star restaurant Noma in Denmark, as well as launching the New Nordic Cuisine movement, the Great Northern Food Hall is Claus Meyers’ first U.S. venture.

Founded by former fashion designer Felicity Rodgers in 2002, Cargo Crew has flourished since launching a contemporary uniform range which has disrupted the once bland and predictive uniform industry. Today the business is a family affair, managed by Felicity Rodgers (Founder & Creative Director), sister Narelle Craig (Client Services Director) and Felicity’s husband Paul Rodgers (Director of Operations).

“We are building a brand that crews around the world are pleased to wear. We have focused our energy on creating original, design led products that work to enhance and compliment a business’ visual identity and language – we call it The Modern Uniform,” said Felicity Rodgers.

With an ever-growing online presence, Cargo Crew’s international appeal has also grown over recent years with the range now being exported to over 30 countries.

“When Meyer’s team first contacted us it was a momentous occasion for Cargo Crew. Once it was confirmed that we’d been selected to outfit the landmark dining concept, located in Grand Central no less, we felt truly honoured. To be part of this handpicked group is testament that our offering is unique and has global appeal,” continued Felicity.

The uniform items selected by team Meyer include Cargo Crew’s signature Barkly Bib denim apron in indigo teamed with a selection of tonal shirts including the Smith Sky blue Oxford shirt, Bailey Denim shirt and new arrival to the range the Utility shirt in a paired back shade of charcoal. The look is a simple understated style. Denim drill combined with oxford weaves and matte linen/cotton blends ensure a Nordic aesthetic is echoed.

It is not just restaurants that demand Cargo Crew’s original and hardwearing designs. Some of the biggest brands in hospitality, retail and trades are capitalising on the opportunity to grow their visual branding through uniform.

The business continues to grow both in Australia and internationally and has firm plans for continual expansion. The past 12 months also saw Cargo Crew win the 2015 Telstra Small Business Award for Australia. The business operates from its inner city Melbourne, Brunswick East HQ and is now proud to be a growing team of 20+ talented individuals.
