Safe reopening of economy supported by Business Council

The Business Council of Australia has pledged its support for a coordinated business campaign introduced to ensure the resumption of economic activities will not put people’s health in jeopardy.

The campaign, appropriately titled “Good to Go”, will ensure that the public will be reminded constantly of three important health reminders to keep themselves safe:

  • Keep distance – maintain social distancing practices everywhere.
  • Keep hygienic – constant handwashing whenever outside the home.
  • Keep the app on – promoting the use of the COVIDSafe app.

Business Council chief executive Jennifer Westacott said, ” The Good to Go campaign provides the entire business community with a coordinated voice that allows us to get three simple health messages out to our teams.

“Businesses, both big and small, have been busy adapting their workplaces and processes to ensure they are COVIDSafe. Safe Work Australia has also published return to work guidelines for businesses to follow, but that is not all of the solution,” Westacott added. “It is now up to each of us as individuals – either as customers, employers, employees or suppliers – to play our part, and that means following those three simple steps.

“By doing this, we can have confidence that it is safe to go back to work, go to the shops and get the country moving again. We are uniting behind the Good to Go campaign because it is an easy way for Australians to join in the safe reopening of the economy. This will allow business to get back to work and create the extra jobs we need to drive a strong recovery,” Westacott said.

“By continuing to follow the advice of health officials, Good to Go means we can all do our part in protecting the health and safety of workers, customers, and suppliers as COVID-19 restrictions ease.”

Westacott has encouraged all employers to join the Good to Go campaign, not just Business Council members, and share the important messages with their teams.

“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, business has done everything it can to keep their workers safe and employed and protect the health of the community,” Westacott said. “People can have confidence that business is putting in place detailed COVIDSafe return to plans across their industries. This means we can continue to operate safely and get more people back to work as quickly as possible. The Good to Go campaign is an important part of this.”

She concluded, “Everyone has pulled together to contain COVID-19 and we’ll need the same focus, co-operation and determination to set ourselves up for a strong and safe recovery as restrictions ease.”
